You're the parent, you decide if its a good idea or not for her to have one. Just because her friends have one doesn't mean she should. A myspace isn't needed for anyone, let alone a 11 year old. If you don't want her to have one just tell her no. Yeah she'll be mad about it but she can't have everything. I'm sure you know that as a parent. She'll go through her period of "hating" you because of it, but it'll eventually pass. If you decided to let her have one and you're concerned about it, why don't you monitor her while she is on it to make sure something that shouldn't be happening doesn't happen

the myspace rules say that you have to be 14 to have a myspace account, but that seems unreasonable to me. if you tell her no thats just going to make her angry, and she'll probably end up making one behind your back, and then you couldn't be there to make sure that she is making safe choices.

my little cousin is 11 and she and all of her friends all have a myspace. its no big deal, but u should make sure that she sets her profile to private (that means that nobody can see her profile unless she has approved them as a friend), and tell her not to add anybody that she doesn't know.

it might be a good idea to limit the time that she spends on myspace a day. it can Be addictive! u don't want her turning in2 a veggie!

both of my kids have a Myspace page my youngest is 12. I have my computer in our living room so I monitor all that goes on.They both know not to accept people they do not already know. Just educate your daughter on what is accepted and what is not and monitor it. I would never have a computer in my children's bedroom. Plus, she can always make her account private which makes it even safer. Just make sure that she doesn't give out any info such as her full name, address, phone number, what school she goes to, if she plays sports....don't mention what team she plays on, plus never leave places where she might be going.

If all else fails you can always delete her page and put parental controls on your computer!!

First of all, I think the site's rules state that you have to be at least 13 to have an account anyway so if her friends are the same age as her, they're violating the site rules. Second, MySpace is definitely NOT a place for an 11-year-old child. I'm 31 and I've had tons of random perverts send me messages. It's just not a safe place for children at all (or adults, in some instances!). You're the mom and you need to be in control of this. You have to love her enough to say no sometimes.
